MORE LOCAL CONTACTS

We have compiled a series of local organizations who have either collaborated upon T.R.U.S.T.’s mission or who have worked tirelessly to meet the needs of the community’s welfare.

Developing a network of community partners is crucial to addressing the public health crisis of adversity and is key to elevating wellness in the region. Click below for details.

Understanding the Basics

Trauma

A dramatic change in the environment or conditions which a person views as a danger to their welfare.

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (2019) defined childhood trauma as “a frightening, dangerous, or violent event that poses a threat to a child’s life or bodily integrity. Witnessing a traumatic event that threatens life or physical security of a loved one can also be traumatic as well.”

Resilience

The capability to “bounce back” from life’s challenges and regain prior functioning. There is an art to developing resilience founded upon social connection to others and the fostering of supportive relationships. Resilience allows a person to be flexible when facing hardships while adapting to new circumstances and growing from the experience.

Creating a resilient community means coming together to address adversity and enhance well-being.

Take the ACEs Survey

ACEs are “Adverse Childhood Experiences” (i.e. potentially harmful, abnormal or traumatic) events which occurred during a person’s childhood before reaching the age of 18.

These types of adversity can generally be considered sources of maltreatment or household dysfunction and can be divided into a total of 10 classifications.
